New Story in COSMOS

posted on 11 Dec 2012 at 10:42 pm

“The Missing Metatarsal” is my first d-mat (matter transmitter) story for many, many years. It’s just come out in the December issue of Cosmos magazine, with terrific interior art by Jamie Tufrey (reproduced here). It’s a mystery set in the future brought to the attention of two new recurring characters, PK Sargent and “Inspector” Forest, both of whom are unique in their own ways. It’s set in the same universe as Twinmaker, my first YA SF novel due November 2013.

The original title of this story, btw, was “Steganosaurus”, which is silly but still appeals to me. I’ve just finished another story featuring these characters called “Jejunium”, but will probably end up being “Face Value”. I sense a pattern in the making . . .

(Huge thanks to Cat Sparks for editing the story, and for encouraging me to submit in the first place.)
