Troubletwisters

The reception to Troubletwisters has been extraordinarily gratifying. It’s been described as an “enjoyable romp” (Publishers Weekly),”a cracking start to a highly original series that will really appeal to fantasy fans aged nine and up” (Readings) “packed full of petrifying moments, magic, talking cats and many memorable moments” (Mr Ripley’s Enchanted Books) that “whips along at a great pace with truly original ideas and some really heart-stopping moments” (Inis Magazine). Readplus says: “Written in a seamless style (I couldn’t pick which author was writing which bit!), both the characterisation and the action are excellent.” The Indigo Blog recommends it “to anyone who wants to read innovative and magical fantasy appropriate for all ages”, and numberous other publications and blogs have had positive things to say, including LibraryThing, The Write Path, Bitesize Books, ActiveDad, The Telegraph and The Guardian.

Here’s one of my favourites:

“Master fantasy writer Garth Nix and Sean Williams have created an exciting new series that any kid would enjoy. Who doesn’t like exploring a mysterious house full of knick-knacks and meeting a grandmother for the first time who you think is a witch and will throw you in the oven to bake? . . . Normally I don’t get grossed out when reading books, but the numerous occasions in Troubletwisters where cockroaches, rats and spiders were swarming and crawling all over the place really got to me. It’s disgusting, but I couldn’t stop reading. And you won’t be able to either!” (KidsReads)

As well as all the videos you’ll find on YouTube of Garth and I talking about and reading from the book, here’s an article about our first school gig together in the US, and here’s another about our appearance at the LA Times Festival of Books, and yet another about our day at the Hay Festival.

I love the usage of “enjoyable romp”!
